Calf raises on leg press machine is an isolation exercise that primarily works the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles of the calf. To perform this exercise, sit on a leg press machine and place the balls of your feet on the lower portion of the platform, with your heels hanging off the edge. Push the platform away from you with your feet until your legs are straight, and then lower the platform by bending your ankles, allowing your heels to drop below the edge of the platform. This is one repetition. To increase the difficulty of this exercise, you can adjust the foot placement on the platform, moving your feet closer together or further apart, and pointing your toes inward or outward. You can also use one leg at a time, or hold weights on your thighs for added resistance.
