  • Adopting a Whole Food Plant Based Diet

    April 24, 2020
A recent American Cancer Society (ACS) study shows that 42% of all cancer cases in the U.S. are linked to preventable causes. At the top of the list of risk factors causing cancer is diet. • What's In Your Backpack?

    February 04, 2020
This whole article will be based upon a metaphor. I came up with it during a conversation with my young neighbor; he is nineteen and in his first year of college, but I’ve known him since just before his fourteenth birthday. We’ve grown rather close over these past 5+ years; he’s like a grandson to me, especially since I literally live half-way around the world from my own son and grandchildren. So, Mark and I have had many talks as he has grown up, and I think it’s fair to say that we’ve touched upon issues over the years that even his parents wouldn’t touch. I use my being a rather eccentric old lady as my excuse for bringing up the more “delicate” matters.
  • A lesson in Product Nutrition Labeling

    February 02, 2020
When you’re watching the nutritional content of food and supplements you’re taking and counting on an app or website like KusogLife to show the details, it’s important to keep in mind that the nutritional content of packaged foods can change, leaving the apps with outdated information. I recently was very surprised to see the kinds of changes that happened to one of my favorite packed foods.
  • Why Taking Control Of Your Body Health Impacts Your Mind

    February 01, 2020
Your mind is the most powerful tool you have for the creation of good in your life. Think about it. Your brain is always “on,” even while you’re asleep. It takes care of your breathing and heartbeat, thoughts and movements, your consciousness and senses — it works hard every day, 24/7.
  • Regarding Food

    January 29, 2020
I HATE the word “diet”; it points to thoughts of self-deprivation, and who wants that? I prefer to discuss “Eating Styles”. But before we get into that, let’s first get one thing out of the way. It all boils down to basic biology and body chemistry: energy in and energy out. Food is energy/fuel for our bodies. Put more fuel in than you burn and your body gets creative by building storage rooms for all that extra fuel in the form of fat. Put less fuel into your body than it needs to get through the day and your body automatically takes fuel out of storage which, in turn, causes you to lose weight. It really isn’t rocket science. If you’re gaining weight, it’s because you are eating too much and/or exercising too little.
  • The Supplementing Vegan

    January 17, 2020
In recent years, the trend towards a diet free of animal products has grown tremendously, giving a rise in popularity to vegetarian, vegan and whole food plant-based diets. The reasons why people decide to start a vegan lifestyle can be very diverse: ethics, morals, religion, food intolerances and health. The primary distinction between being vegan and following a whole food plant-based diet is concern over animal welfare.
